Born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire in 1973, Matt Home started with the trumpet and switched to drums at the age of 8. After taking private lessons in 1991 he enrolled on the three year course in Jazz and popular music at CLCM graduating in 1994 and soon began playing professionally, based in Leeds.
In 1999, Matt moved to London and soon began playing with many of  the leading musicians in London, the UK and Europe including Alan Barnes, Claire Martin, Stacey Kent, Atila, Brandon Allen, Allison Neale, Jim Mullen, Dave Cliff, Steve Fishwick, Matt Wates and Nat Steele among others.

Matt has played with many US artists including Barry Harris, Cyrus Chestnut, John Bunch, Hod O’ Brien, Herb Geller, Scott Hamilton, Howard Alden, Dusko Gykovich, Ken Peplowski, Harry Allen, Bob Wilber, Warren Vache, Benny Sharoni, Chuck Redd, Nate Najar, Maucha Adnet, Greg Abate, Joe Cohn, Jim Snidero, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Eric Alexander, Grant Stewart and Gary Smulyan, with whom he completed two UK tours.

He has also played in clubs, theatres and Jazz festivals throughout Europe, Asia and South America and recorded with a great many artists including Stacey Kent,Ray Gelato, Karen Sharp, Matt Wates, Alex Garnett, Steve Fishwick, Nigel Price Organ Trio, Gareth Lockrane and Allison Neale.

Nigel Price Organ Trio won the 2009 Parliamentary Jazz Award for best ensemble. In the same year, Gareth Lockrane septet won “best CD” award for “No Messin'“ on which Matt played drums.

Matt was awarded the 1993 “ John Scheerer Prize” for Jazz drums was nominated in the best drummer category for the 2016 British Jazz Award

Current projects include ‘ Five- Way Split’ a UK quintet comprising 5 of the leading straight ahead jazz musicians on the London scene: The Nate Najar U.S Trio and more recently The Raible/Gradischnig Quintet “ Elmo Hope Project “ with UK trumpeter Steve Fishwick. The band is a European/UK tribute to the late great jazz pianist and composer Elmo Hope. They have recorded two CDs; “Searching For Hope” ( 2015) and the latest release, “ Mo Is On- The Music Of Elmo Hope Vol.2” ( 2018,Trio Records) which gained 4 star review in JazzWise magazine.

Teaching and educational credits include extensive one-to-one private tuition as well as a period at DRUMTECH/TECH MUSIC Schools in London where he taught large ensembles and one-to -one drum lessons, as well as work at LCCM London and Middlesex University.
Matt has also made regular appearances on TV including Paul O Grady’s show with UK singer Cleo Laine and The Alan Titchmarsh Show with Curtis Stigers and Mitch Winehouse.
He has also appeared in several movies including “King Of Thieves” starring Micheal Caine; “ Legend” starring Tom Hardy and the re- make of the film ” Gambit” alongside Cameron Diaz, Alan Rickman and Colin Firth. 

During regular visits to NYC has studied privately with drummers Joe Farnsworth, Kenny Washington and Herlin Riley. Matt leads his own group “ Cymbalist” playing regular shows at Ronnie Scott’s late show.
